D-U Type Blowout Preventer (BOP)
The Type U Blowout Preventer features the widest range of sizes and is the most widely used ram-type BOP for land, platform and undersea applications. Well bore pressure acts on the pressure-energized BOP to increase the sealing force and maintain the seal in the event of hydraulic pressure loss. A forged body, hydraulically opening bonnets and a wide selection of rams are also available to meet all application requirements.
FEATURES
- Available with a manual or hydraulic operating system.
- Bonnet-seal carrier on 13-5/8” bodies can be installed without additional re-work. Eliminates the need for high makeup torque on bonnet bolts and nuts. Other sizes require modification to accept the seal carrier.
- Hydraulically operating wedgelocks mechanically lock and hold the ram closed even when actuating pressure is released. Operating system can also be interlocked using sequence caps to ensure wedgelock is retracted before applying pressure to open the BOP.
- A pressure-balance chamber, used with wedgelocks for subsea applications, eliminates the possibility of the wedgelock becoming unlocked due to hydrostatic pressure.
- Retrofit to a UM bonnet is available for more shearing force without the need for shear bonnets, large-bore bonnets or tandem boosters.
